Sirius XM Radio will celebrate Super Pride Weekend 2011 with special programming on 24/7 LGBT channel OutQ (ch. 108), including an all-star DJ tribute to the iconic Paradise Garage disco, a revealing interview with global pop queen Kylie Minogue and the launch of a new series co-hosted by veteran DJ/producer Nicky Siano and OutQ’s Larry Flick.

OutQ’s Super Pride Weekend 2011 programming will include:

All-night club party tribute to the iconic Paradise Garage disco with legendary DJs David DePino Xtravaganza and Joey Llanos. The Paradise Garage was notable in the history of modern pop culture for cultivating a distinctive sound that merged vintage disco with cutting-edge house music, and it was the birthplace to such legends as the late DJ/producer Larry Levan and Mel Cheren, whose West End Record label became synonymous with the “garage sound.” DePino Xtravaganza and Llanos were part of an all-star tribute to the Paradise Garage in New York City earlier this year, and OutQ will air this “reunion party” beginning at 10:00 pm ET on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26.
DJ/producer Nicky Siano—who masterminded three-turntable club-mixing at such landmark disco-era venues as Le Jardin, the Gallery and Studio 54—will debut his new OutQ series Behind the Grooves on Saturday, June 25 at 9:00 pm ET. On the show, Siano and co-host Larry Flick will weave memories of the early days of disco and the LGBT movement with classic ’70s hits and rare musical treasures. An encore presentation of the Behind the Grooves premiere airs Sunday, June 26 at 9:00 pm ET.

Special edition of Feel the Spin with Larry Flick featuring a wide array of in-depth interviews with music icons, including an intimate conversation with global pop diva Kylie Minogue in which she shares never-before revealed details of her battle against breast cancer, her dramatic split from her career-launching relationship with UK songwriting and record producing trio Stock Aiken Waterman and her evolution to her current status as one of the top-selling recording artists in the world. Feel the Spin will also feature a rare interview with dance music legend Martha Wash, who will trace her history as one-half of The Weather Girls, her long-time association with Sylvester and well as her controversial tenure as the voice of C+C Music Factory and Black Box. Wash will also perform her new single, “I’ve Got You,” along with one of her classics. Adding to the festivities, pioneer turntable artist Warren Gluck contributes a set to Feel the Spin that pays homage to another historic New York disco club, The Saint. Gluck’s tunes will take listeners on a musical voyage back to The Saint’s Super-Pride Tea-Dances that played to millions of men and women during the ’80s and ’90s. Feel the Spin kicks off Sunday, June 26 at 2:00 pm ET.

Iconography: Larry Kramer: throughout super-pride weekend, OutQ will air the latest in its Iconography series, Iconography: Larry Kramer, which offers an intimate look at the life and work of the playwright, author, public health advocate, and LGBT rights activist. Kramer sat down for this candid, in-depth discussion in the New York City apartment where he formed Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) in 1980 and AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) in 1987. In this one-hour special, Kramer reveals the events that put him on the path to becoming one of the most profound and influential voices in gay history and offers insight into the creation of his acclaimed play The Normal Heart, which is currently enjoying a Tony-winning revival on Broadway. Iconography: Larry Kramer airs Saturday, June 25 at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm and Sunday, June 26 at 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm, all times ET.

Video excerpts from the Lady Gaga-Gayle King interview below:

  • Lady Gaga talks to Gayle King about the importance of being yourself, expressing individuality authentically and the subjective nature of art and music. Says Gaga: “…if you’re not being yourself and you’re being an idea of yourself, it’s an injustice to everything that you stand for, unless…you’re an artist who doesn’t stand for what I stand for…I stand for being yourself and loving who you are and being proud, so if I was to wash my mouth out every night before I went on stage and iron my hair a little too finely my fans wouldn’t buy it…they’d see right through me. They know I’m not perfect. “

  • Lady Gaga talks about her fashion choices in her recent interview with Gayle King and the joy she takes in expressing her music through her clothes and the fun she has making “all sorts of wild decisions” when it comes to her style and fashion choices:

“Born This Way” is Lady Gaga’s first No. 1 album.

Yoshiki Radio to Debut on SiriusXM

yoshiki

Sirius XM Radio announced today that Yoshiki, Japanese icon and leader of Japan’s multi-million-selling, superstar rock band X Japan, will host his first-ever radio show, Yoshiki Radio, on SiriusXM’s The Boneyard, channel 38.

Yoshiki Radio, the hour-long monthly show, will launch on Friday, May 27 at 8:00 pm ET. Beginning Sunday, June 5, Yoshiki Radio will air the first Sunday of every month at 9:00 pm ET.

Yoshiki Radio will offer an eclectic mix of East meets West, and will include Yoshiki’s personal favorite music tracks, and music from artists that have influenced him, as well as an introduction to some of Japan’s most innovative and successful artists. The monthly show will also feature elements of Japanese pop culture that already have made their mark on American life, from sushi to Sony to Nintendo/Wii, to the global megastar Hello Kitty, to the burgeoning western popularity of Anime. Yoshiki’s band, X Japan, has been credited with pioneering “Visual Kei,” a cultural movement that greatly contributed to today’s worldwide Anime craze.

“I’m very excited to do the show exclusively on SiriusXM, as I’d like to help tear down the wall between East and West,” said Yoshiki. “I want to show people that there is no one language, no real boundaries when it comes to music and art, and that we are all more alike than not. I also hope my exposure of unique music choices to the West will allow me to show, with pride, a beautiful side of our culture in these difficult times.”

“We love introducing listeners to bands they may not otherwise hear on other audio platforms and providing them the chance to discover great new music,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. “Yoshiki’s music ranges from heavy metal to ballads to alternative rock to symphonic. Only on SiriusXM will you hear Yoshiki’s pioneering choices of songs that mix musical worlds.”

Earlier this year, Yoshiki and his band X Japan signed an exclusive, three-year deal with EMI Music for distribution in North America. X Japan’s North American debut album will be released later this year. The album’s first single, “Jade,” will be available this spring.

X Japan is one of the most successful rock bands in Japanese history, and the heart of X Japan is Yoshiki, songwriter, drummer, producer, and classically-trained pianist who also plays guitar, bass and trumpet. Yoshiki, who has been referred to by his first name only throughout his professional career, is arguably Asia’s most influential musical artist and, according to one industry insider, “is to Japan what Bono is to the UK.” Hello Kitty, for the first time in its history, even designed a product line after a person, creating a new character, “Yoshikitty,” based on Yoshiki. X Japan has sold more than 30-million albums, singles and videos, and headlined and sold out Japan’s 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome 18 times. The band, having always wanted to break in North America, made its concert debut at 2010′s Lollapalooza festival with a critically-acclaimed North American tour that followed last fall. The band plans to tour extensively in 2011, and has already announced dates in the UK, Europe and Latin America.
