Ziggy Marley to Host New Show on SiriusXM

Sirius XM Radio announced today that five-time Grammy-winning musician, actor, artist, activist and humanitarian Ziggy Marley will host a new monthly show, Ziggy Marley’s Legends of Reggae.

The monthly show will launch on Sunday, February 5, the eve of the birthday of his late father, Bob Marley, at 12:00 pm ET on The Joint, channel 42. This first episode features Ziggy speaking in depth with reggae legend Jimmy Cliff.

Ziggy Marley’s Legends of Reggae will feature Marley sharing his unique perspective on music and culture and introducing listeners to his favorite reggae music and sources of inspiration (with some rarities), plucked from his own personal collection. The show will also include music from the Marley family, including material from Ziggy’s most recent solo studio album, Wild and Free, and throwback selections dating back to his days as a Melody Maker. In addition to Jimmy Cliff, Ziggy Marley’s Legends of Reggae will feature other special guests on the monthly show.

Ziggy Marley’s Legends of Reggae will air the first Saturday of each month at 12:00 pm ET, and will be rebroadcast the next day, Sunday, at 2:00 pm ET.

Ziggy Marley was born in 1968 in Trenchtown, Jamaica. Ziggy began his musical career playing with his father, reggae legend Bob Marley, and his siblings Sharon, Cedella and Stephen in 1979. The siblings became known as Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, and released over 11 albums, three of which were Grammy winners.  Ziggy has released several solo albums since 2003, including: Dragonfly; his Grammy Award-winning Love Is My Religion; Family Time, which won him his fifth career Grammy, but his first in the children’s arena; and the Grammy-nominatedWild and Free. Always politically aware, Ziggy has also been involved with the United Nations, and has formed his own charity U.R.G.E as well as contributed in various ways to other charities such as Little Kids Rock, Amnesty International. In 2010, Ziggy and his brothers Rohan and Robbie traveled to South Africa to film the documentary Marley Africa Road Trip. In 2011, the 30-year career of Ziggy Marley continued stronger than ever with the “MarijuanaMan” comic book. Ziggy continues to tour and perform at festivals internationally as well as at his own Legends of Reggae festival in California.

SiriusXM Announces Wide-Ranging Programming Plans for Super Bowl

Sirius XM Radio, the Official Satellite Radio Partner of the NFL, announced today that it will broadcast Super Bowl XLVI in 10 languages, offering listeners 13 different live broadcasts plus a wide mix of sports and entertainment programming from Indianapolis throughout Super Bowl Week.

SiriusXM Debuts “The Badge with Howard Safir”

Sirius XM Radio today announced the launch of The Badge with Howard Safir, a provocative, six-week series hosted by the former Police Commissioner of New York City on which he will offer his insight on the drama, heroism and challenges faced by law enforcement officials today. In addition, subscribers will have the opportunity to call in to The Badge and ask everything they ever wanted to know about police officers, criminals and what it takes to keep society safe.

The Badge with Howard Safir will launch on Sunday, January 29 at 11:00 am ET on SiriusXM Stars (channel 107) with special guest former MayorRudolph Giuliani.  Safir served as Police Commissioner during Giuliani’s administration for four years and has worked with Giuliani for over four decades on national and international law enforcement matters. Bill Polian Signs On With SiriusXM NFL Radio

Sirius XM Radio announced today that former Indianapolis Colts Vice Chairman Bill Polian has joined SiriusXM NFL Radio, the only radio channel dedicated to the NFL 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Polian will make his debut on Monday, January 30, on Late Hits (8:00 — 11:00 pm ET).  He’ll host the show again on Wednesday, February 1, andFriday, February 3, and will be heard regularly on the channel throughout the year.  SiriusXM NFL Radio is available to listeners nationwide on channel 88 on Sirius and XM Premier (formerly known as “The Best of Sirius”).

Polian built a reputation throughout his front office career as a superb talent evaluator and executive.  He served as President and Vice Chairman of the Indianapolis Colts from 1997 through 2011, overseeing all football and administrative aspects of the club and guiding the franchise through an extraordinary period of success.  Under Polian’s direction, the Colts selected quarterback Peyton Manning with the #1 pick in the 1998 NFL Draft.  Manning went on to become a four-time league MVP, leading a long list of players signed by Polian who went on to become stars includingDwight Freeney, Dallas Clark, Edgerrin James, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and many others.  During Polian’s tenure, the Colts went to the playoffs 11 times, won eight division titles and two AFC Championship games, and defeated the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI.

Before joining the Colts, Polian was the first general manager of the expansion Carolina Panthers, leading the team’s front office from 1994 to 1997.  Remarkably, the Panthers went to the NFC Championship game in only its second year of existence.  Prior to his tenure in Carolina, Polian was the general manager of the Buffalo Bills for seven seasons.  He was promoted to the position at the tail end of the 1985 campaign as the team was finishing up its second consecutive 2-14 season.  The Bills would go on to make the playoffs in six consecutive seasons (1988-93) and win four consecutive AFC Conference Championships (1990-93).

In his 24 seasons as a general manager with Indianapolis, Carolina and Buffalo, Polian’s teams made 17 playoff, eight championship game and five Super Bowl appearances.  He served as Vice President of Football Development for the NFL during the 1993 season.  He helped formulate and implement the NFL’s current Collective Bargaining Agreement and he was a member of the league’s Competition Committee, Diversity Committee, Management Council Senior Executive Committee and was Chairman of the College Relations Committee.  He is the first six-time winner of the Executive of the Year award from The Sporting News, an honor bestowed on him by his peers.

“SiriusXM’s Town Hall with Ringo Starr” to Air Live on January 30

Sirius XM Radio announced today that Ringo Starr will sit down for a rare, exclusive Q&A session, hosted by Russell Brand and moderated by legendary producer Don Was, with a select group of SiriusXM subscribers at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, California.

“SiriusXM’s Town Hall with Ringo Starr” will air live on The Spectrum, channel 28, on Monday, January 30 at 4:00 pm ET, the day before the release of Starr’s new album, Ringo 2012. The special is part of SiriusXM’s “Town Hall” series, an intimate gathering with an iconic musician and a studio audience of SiriusXM listeners. Previous “SiriusXM Town Hall” specials have featured Bruce Springsteen, the surviving members of Nirvana, Tom Petty and Coldplay.

Hosted by Russell Brand, and moderated by Don Was, who is featured on Ringo 2012, the “SiriusXM Town Hall with Ringo Starr” will include the legendary singer/songwriter/drummer answering questions from the studio audience.

SiriusXM “Iconography” Series to Feature Award-Winning Writer/Producer/Director Ryan Murphy

Sirius XM Radio today announced that Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning television and film screenwriter, director and producer Ryan Murphy—the creator of the groundbreaking television shows Glee and American Horror Story—will be profiled and honored through the end of January as the featured subject of the next installment of Iconography, the exclusive series which profiles iconic and influential members and allies of the gay community on SiriusXM’s LGBT channel SiriusXM OutQ.

Murphy’s revealing and compelling Iconography interview offers a deeply personal look into his Irish Catholic upbringing in Indiana, growing up gay in the early 1980s and how he handles success and disappointment. He also speaks candidly about the early days of Glee: “The executives at [Fox] all loved it, except one who wanted it to crash and burn,” Murphy reveals, adding that when the show reached the end of filming its initial network order of 13 episodes, “…the cast and crew were literally in tears. We thought that was it. We’ll never work together again. Ultimately, I remember it being an exciting and powerful time, because the thing that nobody ever thought would work, worked.”

Murphy also shares the humorous details of how his longtime partner, David Miller, proposed marriage: “We went to Central Park for a walk on my birthday,” Murphy recalls. “Suddenly, there he was on one knee, with the bench and the ring. It was very emotional. Later, we found out that some of the hardcore sex scenes in the movie Cruising were shot in that area. It was hilarious. But it was also very sweet and romantic.”

New Year’s Eve Concerts to Air Live on SiriusXM

Sirius XM Radio announced today that it will ring in the new year with an extensive lineup of live concerts, special performances, DJ sets, a New Year’s Eve music channel and various year-end countdowns hosted by some of the year’s biggest artists.

SiriusXM listeners will hear live concert broadcasts from all over the country featuring a wide-ranging lineup of musicians, including Furthur (featuring Phil Lesh and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead) at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, CA (Grateful Dead Channel, channel 23); Willie Nelson from the Moody Theater in Austin, TX (Willie’s Roadhouse, channel 56); Southside Johnny at Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ (E Street Radio, channel 20); Patti Smith at Bowery Ballroom in New York City, NY (The Loft, channel 30); Cheap Trick’s concert at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg, FL (Classic Rewind, channel 25); Widespread Panic at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC (Jam_On, channel 29); and Little Feat’s concert at The Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD (Radio Margaritaville, channel 24).

Ian Schrager Takes Listeners Behind the Scenes and Even Into the Basement of Studio 54 on SiriusXM Radio

Sirius XM Radio announced today that, for the first time ever, Ian Schrager will share a behind the scenes look at the legendary club Studio 54, on Studio 54 Radio, channel 15.

The exclusive, revealing two-part interview special, “Schrager on Studio,” will feature the visionary Studio 54 co-founder and international hotelier sitting down with fashion icon Norma Kamali to share the inside story of the legendary and iconic nightclub.

“Ian Schrager unquestionably has had his finger on the pulse of pop culture for decades. Along with Steve Rubell, he created the world’s ultimate dance explosion and a club so unique it is still a household name today all over the world,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. “In this one of a kind interview, Ian Schrager talks about an era, time and place that still resonates and whose cultural impact is still being felt today. The channel, launched in August, features music that comes from the vaults and special record collections of insiders, much of which has never been heard since the club permanently closed its doors. Studio 54 Radio also includes The Marc and Myra Show, the weekly interview series featuring Studio 54 insiders sharing many never before told personal stories and anecdotes about the renowned club.

Sirius XM Radio announced that legendary entertainer Regis Philbin will return as the special guest host of “Bing Crosby Christmas Radio,” a limited-run holiday channel devoted to classic Bing Crosby radio broadcasts from 1944 -1962 from Crosby’s personal vault, brimming with comedy skits and musical performances from celebrity guests, and also featuring a rare recording of Crosby reciting the iconic poem “The Night Before Christmas.”

“Bing Crosby Christmas Radio” will air from December 19 through December 26 at 3:00 am ET on SiriusXM channel 146, online on SiriusXM Internet Radio channel 814 and through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App on smartphones and mobile devices on Limited Engagements 4.

Bing’s wife Kathryn Crosby, daughter Mary Crosby and sons Harry and Nathaniel share memories, introduce songs and shows and reflect on Crosby’s life and work on “Bing Crosby Christmas Radio.”

In addition, citing passages from the chapter devoted to Crosby in his new book How I Got This Way, Philbin shares with listeners why Crosby’s songs mean so much to him as he plays his favorite Bing Crosby Christmas records.

“I must have been 6 or 7 years old at the time… every night at 9:30 I sat beside my little radio in the kitchen and listened to a half-hour of Bing’s records regularly… his voice was so clear, so pure and so warm, that after a while I thought of him as my good friend,” said Regis Philbin. “Even though he was out in faraway, glamorous Hollywood and I was in the humble little Bronx, in my mind, I truly thought we were friends and we’d always spend that special half-hour together—just the two of us.”

The channel also features his most popular recording ever, “White Christmas,” as well as multiple Christmas radio specials hosted by Bing over the years including “Christmas Sing with Bing,” “The Bing Crosby Show,” “Philco Radio Time”  and “Kraft Music Hall.”  ”Bing Crosby Christmas Radio” also features a recently discovered rare recording of Crosby reciting the classic poem “The Night Before Christmas.”

Crosby was a major radio star from 1931 to 1962. He appeared on approximately 4,000 radio broadcasts, nearly 3,400 of them his own programs.

Philbin is the recipient of five Emmy® Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a Broadcasting & Cable Lifetime Achievement Award, the Walter Camp Distinguished American Award at Yale University and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2006, he was inducted into both the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame and the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame.

Howard Stern’s “SNL on STERN” to air on SiriusXM

Sirius XM Radio announced today that it will broadcast SNL on STERN, a five-part original series hosted by Howard Stern that offers an uncensored, backstage history of Saturday Night Live as told by the show’s cast, guest hosts and writers from three decades of memorable appearances on The Howard Stern Show.

SNL on STERN premieres on December 19 and airs through December 23 beginning at 6:00 am ET daily on Howard 100 and 6:00 am PT on Howard 101. SNL on STERN will air in five original installments, with encore performances all day and throughout the weekend on Howard 100.

A lifelong fan, Howard’s entertaining and in-depth interviews with the cast, writers and guest hosts of Saturday Night Live have provided some of the most entertaining radio in the show’s history since his first with Gilda Radner in 1983.
