wtc911memorial

SIRIUS XM Radio today announced that it will broadcast a special edition of Doctor Radio Reports: “9/11 – Doctors Who Answered the Call,” a one-hour roundtable discussion hosted by veteran journalist Perri Peltz on which world-class doctors from the NYU Langone Medical Center including H. Leon Pachter, MD, Chair, Department of Surgery; Mark Adelman, MD, Chief of the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery; and Lewis R. Goldfrank, MD, Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine.

On the show, these doctors — who were on duty on September 11, 2001 — reflect on their experiences from both medical and personal perspectives. Listeners will hear what it was like in the operating room when they got word of the disaster and started clearing out patients and prepping for what they thought would be the arrival thousands of victims to the logistics of emergency preparedness, and why they learned no one was prepared for a disaster of this magnitude. In addition, Glenn Asaeda, MD, Deputy Medical Director of the Fire Department of New York, a “first responder” on 9/11, joins the show to reflect on the communications and dispatch issues that day, as well as the trauma of seeing victims jump from the towers.

Doctor Radio Reports: “9/11 – Doctors Who Answered the Call” will air September 10 from 10:00 – 11:00 am ET on Doctor Radio, SIRIUS channel 114/XM channel 119.

Peltz’s guests for this in-depth roundtable discussion:

  • H. Leon Pachter, MD: Chair, Department of Surgery, George David Stewart Professor of Surgery, NYU Langone Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Center. Pachter was on duty at NYU Langone Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Center on 9/11 and was responsible for emergency surgical preparations and surgical units at both hospitals.
  • Mark Adelman, MD: Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Surgery, and Associate Professor of Surgery, NYU Langone Medical Center. Adelman is a regular contributor to Doctor Radio. He was a “second” responder on 9/11, working at the triage locations, and–within 24 hours–moving to Ground Zero to surgically extract rescuers that were trapped in the rubble during the tower collapse. Adelman lives with the lung damage he thought was caused by smoke inhalation but in reality was the pulverized remains of the World Trade Center buildings.
  • Lewis R. Goldfrank, MD: Herbert W. Adams Professor and Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine, NYU School of Medicine; Director, Emergency Department, Bellevue Hospital Center and NYU Langone Medical Center and Medical Director, New York City Poison Control Center. Dr. Goldfrank is deeply involved with government on planning, strategy and preparedness tactics for emergencies and mass casualties. He discusses how 9/11 changed emergency preparedness procedures for the hospitals and what we learned from 9/11 from a medical and response perspective.
  • Glenn Asaeda, MD: Deputy Medical Director, Fire Department of New York. Asaeda was a first responder on 9/11 and tells the story of what he and his men witnessed, and the shock of watching people jump from the towers, the nightmares he still suffers as a result, and the problems with the communications and dispatch systems that day.

Doctor Radio features live, call-in shows hosted by leading NYU Langone Medical Center doctors from a vast array of fields including: child psychology; sexual health; plastic surgery; emergency room medicine; cancer; heart health; women’s health; dermatology; pediatrics; men’s health; diet and nutrition; sports medicine; psychiatry; and more. He took the wine world by storm in 2006 by using the internet to reach millions of people through his energetic wine review video blogs on WineLibraryTV.com.

On SIRIUS XM’s Wine & Web with Gary Vaynerchuk, he will help millions of satellite radio listeners across the country navigate the world and culture of wine, social media and more with his trademark wit, wisdom and fast-paced style. Weekly features include “Wine of the Week,” on which he will try a new wine for the first time on the air, and “Site of the Week,” on which he’ll riff on the latest gadgets, websites, and social media trends.

“Radio is a new platform for me and I’m thrilled to be taking to the airwaves with Wine & Web,” said Gary. “I’ve always wanted to marry my two passions – wine and social media – and SIRIUS XM is the perfect partner for this type of show. SIRIUS XM’s audience embraces creative independent thinkers and I plan to give them a show that will educate, entertain, and inspire.”

“Gary’s entrepreneurial spirit and energetic expertise in wine make him and Wine & Web the perfect match for satellite radio and our cutting edge, sophisticated audience,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SIRIUS XM Radio. “His passion for life and wine is infectious, and will resonate with people of all ages and backgrounds.”

Gary’s New York Times bestseller Crush It!: Why Now is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion maps out his road rules for how to “crush it” in today’s business market by following your passion and building your own personal brand. In the spring of 2009 Gary and his brother AJ launched VaynerMedia, a digital brand building agency whose clients include the NHL, Campbell’s Soup and Forbes. Gary’s businesses also include his family-owned store, Wine Library in Springfield, NJ. Gary was one of the first Facebook users to max-out his friend limit, with over 17,000 requests still pending. He also has close to 1 million followers on Twitter and was included in BusinessWeek’s list of the top 20 people every entrepreneur should follow.  In addition to being a rabid New York Jets fan, Gary is determined to educate the masses about wine, one “sniffy-sniff” at a time.  His unique approach to wine tasting has broadened the category, attracting a diverse fan base that includes football tailgate revelers, NASCAR fans, young professionals and senior citizens. Gary dispenses business advice and comments on emerging technologies and cultural trends at www.garyvaynerchuk.com.
