SiriusXM Debuts “The Badge with Howard Safir”

Sirius XM Radio today announced the launch of The Badge with Howard Safir, a provocative, six-week series hosted by the former Police Commissioner of New York City on which he will offer his insight on the drama, heroism and challenges faced by law enforcement officials today. In addition, subscribers will have the opportunity to call in to The Badge and ask everything they ever wanted to know about police officers, criminals and what it takes to keep society safe.

The Badge with Howard Safir will launch on Sunday, January 29 at 11:00 am ET on SiriusXM Stars (channel 107) with special guest former MayorRudolph Giuliani.  Safir served as Police Commissioner during Giuliani’s administration for four years and has worked with Giuliani for over four decades on national and international law enforcement matters. In the wide-ranging interview, they take on issues including gun control, career criminals, homegrown terrorists, leadership in the aftermath of 9/11 and discuss their first-hand experience surrounding President Ronald Reagan’s assassination attempt. The Badge will air Sundays from 11:00 am — 1:00 pm ET through Sunday, March 4.  Select video clips of Safir’s interview with Giuliani are available at www.siriusxm.com/stars.

On upcoming shows, Safir will be joined by current and former police chiefs, agents, decorated officers, prosecutors, issue advocates and other top-level insiders. They will offer listeners advice on how to stay safe and what to do if you are the victim of a crime, and explore topics including: what exactly happens when someone is arrested, realities and myths of popular television shows like CSI, cybercrime and protecting your identity, career criminals and the complexities of letting repeat offenders walk.  Each week, Safir will honor fallen officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He will also pay tribute to officers whose valor and courage have made them heroes in their communities.

Bill Polian Signs On With SiriusXM NFL Radio

Sirius XM Radio announced today that former Indianapolis Colts Vice Chairman Bill Polian has joined SiriusXM NFL Radio, the only radio channel dedicated to the NFL 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Polian will make his debut on Monday, January 30, on Late Hits (8:00 — 11:00 pm ET).  He’ll host the show again on Wednesday, February 1, andFriday, February 3, and will be heard regularly on the channel throughout the year.  SiriusXM NFL Radio is available to listeners nationwide on channel 88 on Sirius and XM Premier (formerly known as “The Best of Sirius”).

“I’ve been a guest on SiriusXM NFL Radio many times and it is an outstanding source for league news and information,” said Polian.  “Now I get to be the one asking the questions.  I’m excited to get on the air to talk shop with players, executives and coaches around the league and interact daily with many of the great fans who have helped make the NFL the most successful sports league in the world.”

Polian built a reputation throughout his front office career as a superb talent evaluator and executive.  He served as President and Vice Chairman of the Indianapolis Colts from 1997 through 2011, overseeing all football and administrative aspects of the club and guiding the franchise through an extraordinary period of success.  Under Polian’s direction, the Colts selected quarterback Peyton Manning with the #1 pick in the 1998 NFL Draft.  Manning went on to become a four-time league MVP, leading a long list of players signed by Polian who went on to become stars includingDwight Freeney, Dallas Clark, Edgerrin James, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and many others.  During Polian’s tenure, the Colts went to the playoffs 11 times, won eight division titles and two AFC Championship games, and defeated the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI.

Before joining the Colts, Polian was the first general manager of the expansion Carolina Panthers, leading the team’s front office from 1994 to 1997.  Remarkably, the Panthers went to the NFC Championship game in only its second year of existence.  Prior to his tenure in Carolina, Polian was the general manager of the Buffalo Bills for seven seasons.  He was promoted to the position at the tail end of the 1985 campaign as the team was finishing up its second consecutive 2-14 season.  The Bills would go on to make the playoffs in six consecutive seasons (1988-93) and win four consecutive AFC Conference Championships (1990-93).

In his 24 seasons as a general manager with Indianapolis, Carolina and Buffalo, Polian’s teams made 17 playoff, eight championship game and five Super Bowl appearances.  He served as Vice President of Football Development for the NFL during the 1993 season.  He helped formulate and implement the NFL’s current Collective Bargaining Agreement and he was a member of the league’s Competition Committee, Diversity Committee, Management Council Senior Executive Committee and was Chairman of the College Relations Committee.  He is the first six-time winner of the Executive of the Year award from The Sporting News, an honor bestowed on him by his peers.

Sirius XM Radio to Announce Full Year and Fourth Quarter 2011 Results

Sirius XM Radio today announced that it plans to release full year and fourth quarter 2011 financial and operating results on Thursday, February 9, 2012.

SiriusXM will hold a conference call at 8:00 am ET on Thursday, February 9, 2012 to discuss these results.  Investors and the press can listen to the conference call via the company’s website, www.siriusxm.com, and on its satellite radio service by tuning to Sirius channel 94 or XM channel 145.  The call will also be available on the Sports Zone channel on SiriusXM Internet Radio as well as through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App for the Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, and on BlackBerry and Android-powered smartphones.

Customers purchasing pre-owned vehicles from participating Chrysler Group dealerships will have access to SiriusXM’s commercial-free music, and premier sports, news, talk, entertainment plus traffic and weather information.

SiriusXM “Iconography” Series to Feature Award-Winning Writer/Producer/Director Ryan Murphy

ryan murphySirius XM Radio today announced that Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning television and film screenwriter, director and producer Ryan Murphy—the creator of the groundbreaking television shows Glee and American Horror Story—will be profiled and honored through the end of January as the featured subject of the next installment of Iconography, the exclusive series which profiles iconic and influential members and allies of the gay community on SiriusXM’s LGBT channel SiriusXM OutQ.

Murphy’s revealing and compelling Iconography interview offers a deeply personal look into his Irish Catholic upbringing in Indiana, growing up gay in the early 1980s and how he handles success and disappointment. He also speaks candidly about the early days of Glee: “The executives at [Fox] all loved it, except one who wanted it to crash and burn,” Murphy reveals, adding that when the show reached the end of filming its initial network order of 13 episodes, “…the cast and crew were literally in tears. We thought that was it. We’ll never work together again. Ultimately, I remember it being an exciting and powerful time, because the thing that nobody ever thought would work, worked.”

Murphy also shares the humorous details of how his longtime partner, David Miller, proposed marriage: “We went to Central Park for a walk on my birthday,” Murphy recalls. “Suddenly, there he was on one knee, with the bench and the ring. It was very emotional. Later, we found out that some of the hardcore sex scenes in the movie Cruising were shot in that area. It was hilarious. But it was also very sweet and romantic.”

SiriusXM Adds Approximately 1,700,000 Net Subscribers in 2011

Sirius XM Radio at a conference today announced that it ended the year with nearly 21.9 million subscribers, reporting approximately 540,000 net new subscribers in the fourth quarter and approximately 1,700,000 for the full year 2011.

“Based on preliminary subscriber data, we are very pleased to announce that SiriusXM exceeded its subscriber guidance for the year.  Our subscriber growth accelerated in 2011 as net additions grew approximately 20%, delivering our best year for net additions since the merger and demonstrating the strong continuing demand for our unmatched audio content,” said Mel Karmazin, Chief Executive Officer, SiriusXM.

The company reiterated its existing financial guidance for 2011 and 2012 and expects to announce 2012 subscriber guidance and complete 2011 results in February.

BBC Radio 1’s The Official Chart with Reggie Yates to Air on SiriusXM

Sirius XM Radio announced today that it will air BBC Radio 1’s weekly show The Official Chart with Reggie Yates on 20 on 20, channel 3, beginning Sunday, January 15 at 4:00 pm ET.

The weekly countdown show will feature Reggie Yates counting down the UK’s top 40 songs of the week. The Official Chart with Reggie Yates will air on Sundays at 4:00 pm ET.

Sirius XM Radio today introduced the SiriusXM Lynx Portable Radio, the first SiriusXM 2.0 radio that offers new features and receives an expanded channel lineup via satellite and Internet.

Lynx is the most advanced radio ever from SiriusXM, able to receive the new expanded SiriusXM 2.0 channel lineup of commercial-free music, sports, and comedy that includes SiriusXM Latino, a new suite of Spanish-language programming. Lynx is built with a flexible architecture which allows for new features and capabilities to be added through software updates.
